Alejo Muniz and Carissa Moore win at the Vans US Open of Surfing

Vans US Open of SurfingThe 2013 Vans US Open of Surfing is a wrap and Alejo Muniz was the top men’s pro title winner taking home $100K and Carissa Moore the woman’s pro winner.

Carissa Moore and Courtney Conlogue’s final match-up was one of the best of the day. It went down to the wire as Courtney was able to catch a final wave in the last seconds even though Carissa was leading and had priority. The hometown crowd roared as Courtney fought on to the end. But it wasn’t enough and Carissa was able to win the woman’s US Open of Surfing title.

I had a great time photographing the week-long event. Expect several updates throughout this week as I’ll have more time to edit and share them here on OCSurfPix, Instagram and Facebook.

One final note concerning the riots on Main St. that happened after the close of the US Open in Huntington Beach.

I’m sure the city and the organizers will need to address the problems that happened this year. It was very upsetting to see both kids and adults participating in mobs destroying property for no reason.

For next year, if there is one, please respect the beach, respect private property and most importantly act in a respectable manner.
